UnitedHealthcare Vision “Two-Allowance” Plan Option for 100+ Groups Defined
March 16, 2017
In October 2016, UnitedHealthcare launched a new vision benefit offering designed to allow for enhanced benefit transparency. In lieu of UnitedHealthcare’s current contact lens offering, 100+ groups have the option to quote a “two-allowance” plan. This plan offers one allowance for contact lenses and one for the fit and evaluation from an eye care provider.
When a member accesses their two-allowance contact lens benefit, they will not be responsible for paying a copay for materials. However, the member is responsible for any overages incurred outside of each allowance. Each allowance will only be applied to its designated charge. For example, if the member does not use their entire fit and evaluation, the additional allowance amount cannot be used toward materials (and vice versa).
These plans will not replace UnitedHealthcare’s standard contact lens offering. It can be quoted in lieu of the standard offering.
Questions regarding these new plans should be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org.
